EVENTS: Gallipoli Advances on PREBIODUNES: Key Analyses Underway for Dune Conservation

Gallipoli, Italy – The Municipality of Gallipoli is actively proceeding with the implementation of the Work Package 1 (WP1) activities of the PREBIODUNES project, focusing on the analysis and mapping of the selected pilot area: Lido Conchiglie. These key studies are essential as they will constitute the basis for the follow-up conservation and restoration activities of the local dune ecosystems.

In the present day, the project partner is conducting a series of in-depth investigations. These include a comprehensive analysis of hydrological, thermometric and anemometric data collected from specialised environmental sites and from the Apulia Region’s official sources.

Additionally, field analyses are also being carried out to gather detailed information on the different varieties of flora present in the Lido Conchiglie area. Completing these efforts, the Partner is outsourcing specialised laboratory analyses to determine the physical, chemical and hydrological properties of the soil.

A preliminary study is also in progress to identify potential interventions for the conservation and restoration of the dune systems. The findings from these comprehensive analyses will form the basis for future strategies aimed at protecting and enhancing the natural beauty and ecological resilience of the Gallipoli coastline.
