EVENTS: PREBIODUNES Project: 1st Technical Meeting – Mapping for a Greener Future: Shared Guidelines to Protect Coastal Dune Biodiversity

On 19th February, the Lead Partner, Polytechnic University of Bari, in collaboration with the Work Package 1 Leaders, successfully hosted the 1st Technical Meeting of the PREBIODUNES project.
During the session, partners shared and implemented comprehensive guidelines for the detailed analysis and mapping of project sites and their surrounding ecosystems. This document outlines the methodological approach and scientific techniques to be adopted across partner regions.
Key components include:
- Identification and integration of existing databases.
- Specification of real field data to be collected throughout the project.
- Detailed guides for the collection of Geo-Environmental, Landscape, and Territorial/Urbanistic data.
- Protocols for the monitoring of long-term beach evolution, sedimentological patterns, and coastal dynamics.
These tools and methods aim to strengthen the scientific foundation for preserving and enhancing biodiversity in coastal dune ecosystems.
While protecting the biodiversity of coastal dunes may seem like a complex challenge, much can be done both at local and macro-regional levels to conserve and promote biodiversity in these unique environments.
